General Concerns of my Grandfather

My grandfather was a General in Mexico many years ago before I was even born. As a family that came from a General it is not very obvious that my grandfather's military status had any real influence on the family. Our family is very laid back and not as strict as other families that I have known that have a General as their father figure. My grandfather was very good at keeping his work life separate from his family life. When he was home my mother always describes that he was extremely loving and spontaneous. He would cook for the family some mornings and had a beautiful relationship with each of his children. He treated his wife very well and respected her as well as showed his love for her at every opportunity that he got. Although he was a General he did not let that define him. Instead he followed his own path and was simply himself. His character was not determined by his job but rather by his personal goals and beliefs. It seems that most of our family has grown with this outlook of general appreciation for love and respect instead of duty and war. Even as the most important and main General of his time he was still able to reveal is gentle side to his family. He was known for his hard work ethic but also for his kindness and love for everyone that he encountered a lived with. Whenever I thought of a General before I would think of a cold war loving monger who encased himself in frigidity and rules. However upon hearing the stories of my grandfather I realized that not matter what job you might have or what profession you follow your character is always determined by your heart and the things which you hold important to you.
