Directory submissions: Do they work?
There is a ton of talk about directory submission when you search on SEO. Do these things really work? Well, some say that every link counts. Others say that the power of a little link like a directory is really near zero. So what is the truth?
Well, Google closely guards their algo so nobody but Google could REALLY give you an authoritative answer on directory submission. But most agree that a link will never hurt you. That being said, most top SEOs also agree that links carry VASTLY different weight for your rankings based on how related to your theme they are and how powerful they are.
So should you do directory submission? I say YES - but with heavy qualifications. I like to use directory submission for a brand new site that has no history or authority. It helps get things going. But recognize that these direction submissions will not really help you rank - directly. I know this seems like a contradiction, but remember it's a big puzzle and directories are only one part of the puzzle.
